Union Leader tobacco was originally made by the P. Lorillard Company, established in 1760 in New York City. The P. Lorillard Company was in business until it became part of the American Tobacco Company in about 1890 and became a separate company again in about 1911. Tin “lunchbox” tobacco cans were manufactured until the Second World War. These containers were very popular in early 20th century America as they were kept and commonly used as lunch boxes.
